Daily Smoothie

Smoothies are a great way of ensuring you get enough of your 5 a day as far as your daily fruit is concerned. Otherwise, for me at least, it would be a hell of an effort to munch my way through what I get to stick in the blitzer each morning for our smoothies.

We have our smoothies after our first drink of the day which is a large cup of fresh coffee each. It is me who usually gets to make the smoothies, in fact I usually get to make the coffees as well. Since being made redundant in July 2016 after we pulled the plug on Wise Words, the small book distribution company I helped to run and was co-director of, and having not as yet picked up the work mantle again, my daily routine has changed considerably. I now have plenty of time in the mornings to first make our coffees, then once they have been drunk by me and my wife Dawa Dolkar, to go back and make the smoothies. All the time in world to not only do the coffees and the smoothies but also to do other stuff as well, such as empty the dishwasher and put all the nice clean cups and plates back into the kitchen cupboards. Words on Meditation

So today, after the usual amount of time lying around in the warmth of my bed, half awake, half asleep, I went downstairs to do a light clean of the coffee table in the lounge, the glass top table where we sit to drink our morning coffee. Did a light clean of that with a spray and paper kitchen towel then also brushed the kitchen floor, yes, gave it a quick going over with the dustpan and brush. When that was done it was back upstairs for meditation, no actually, come to think of it, there was no cleaning this morning, there was just the straight walk from bedroom to shrine room in order to sit down and meditate. Shrine room is the little room we have at the end of the landing which would be a small bedroom except that for us it is not, it is our shrine room instead, the place where we go to meditate, contemplate, sitting before the shrine we have with Buddha and other religious objects placed upon it. Morning Bowl of Cereal

Breakfast begins with pouring a bunch of bite size Shredded Wheat into my wide cereal bowl. Now it used to be the case that when I was younger I considered Shredded Wheat a bit hard core as far as having them for breakfast was concerned. Mainly because at that time, the late 60s early 70s, they had not been available as bite size, only as bricks much, much bigger, which as an option they still are, and on the TV you had guys like the cricketer Ian “Beefy” Botham advertising them with the shout line, “Can you eat more than 2 Shredded Wheat?”. It was all enough to put me off them and as a consequence, for many years, I was a Weetabix man, or boy. With Weetabix it was not much of a challenge to take a few bricks, use my hands to crumble them in my cereal bowl, so that there was just a pile of smashed bix, then pour milk over the top of them. They then became a rather delicious mush once smashed down a bit further down with my spoon and then I would wolf it down in no time at all. Continue reading “Morning Bowl of Cereal”
